This is a Research Project and a Web Journal spearheaded by Muslim women aimed at understanding and explaining various discourses in the light of Islam.
The name Fihreyaat is inspired by Fatimah al-Fihreyah, founder of world’s first University- The Qarawiyyin in 859 A.D.
The University was first of its kind and signifies the role of Muslim women in the sphere of Knowledge and advanced education as the visionaries and guiding stars that inspired others to setup institutions of higher learning.
Mission
As a philosophy of life emerged in the medieval Europe and violently imposed on other societies through colonialism and imperialism, Liberalism strongly dominates our everyday lives. Today, despite the failure of these ideologies, the liberal stronghold conspicuously impairs liberals to challenge its theories and values. Critiquing liberalism and secularism using liberal epistemology has proven to be a futile exercise and there is a growing acknowledgment among political scientists that any attempt to revive liberalism will not be a solution to the problems caused by this philosophy globally.
At this critical juncture in human civilization, when liberalism has not only failed but resulted in the ongoing oppression of Muslims and non-liberal societies, civil wars, inter-national wars etc., (disregarding other environmental or economic issues) we wish to assert the supremacy of Allah, the Lord of the worlds and the final revelation as the only right solution for the crisis of the liberal world order.
Even at a time of increased oppression against Muslims, our community leaders in particular and Muslim Ummah at large, are facing a dilemma due to the lack of an independent political direction. As researchers we understand it as our responsibility to develop an alternative thought process premised on Quran and Sunnah to facilitate this void.
Through this initiative, we seek to contribute in conceptualizing terminologies and developing discourses to dismantle the existing hegemony of left and right liberal ideologies in defining Muslim liberation.
